AIG is believed to be the first architectural engineering firm in the world to design a terminal control tower in 3-dimensional CAD and fabricate the model automatically by three-dimensional printing without human intervention. A photograph of the model appears below. This model was made to a small scale for demonstration purposes. AIG has the capabilities to fabricate a model or portion of a model up to 22 inches cubed. The models are fabricated from an ultra violet sensitive epoxy resin, which is very amenable to painting for architectural effects. The model making can be used with conventional model making techniques by combining the arts together such as using the model making machine to fabricate an intricate portico and the balance of the building can be fabricated in a c
onventional matter. The use of this technology will flourish as the architects become more accustomed to designing in three-dimensional CAD.
The Automatic Modeler has found many uses in the Aerospace Industry, such as modeling the Stratospheric Super Sonic Passenger Jet used in wind tunnel testing. This jet will eventually be flying from New York to Hong Kong in four hours. In addition, many items have been fabricated for use on satellites as well as deep space expeditions.
